Regular well-child visits are the cornerstone of your child’s preventive care. Nevada Pediatric Specialists believe in following the latest scientifically-based medical information to keep our patients as healthy as possible.
This is why we follow the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) schedule for well-child visits, beginning in infancy and into young adulthood.
Receiving regular pediatric check-ups is the best way to prevent childhood illnesses and track healthy growth and development.
What Happens at a Well-Child Visit?
Some may think a well-child visit check-up isn’t necessary because you’re measuring your child’s growth and have been on top of their immunizations. However, a well-child visit is much more than a quick measurement and a shot.
Our providers take time to review your child’s physical growth, developmental milestones, behavioral patterns, social-emotional health, and school performance. We also update vaccines, complete required screenings, and address whatever concerns you or your child may be having. A well-child visit gives parents invaluable insights into their child’s overall health, growth, and development.
For teenagers, we also include age-appropriate confidential conversations about mental health, sexual health, substance use, and other topics the AAP recommends for adolescent wellness.
Well-Child Visit Schedule (AAP Recommended)
- Newborn (3 to 5 days after birth)
- 2 weeks
- 2 months
- 4 months
- 6 months
- 9 months
- 12 months
- 15 months
- 18 months
- 24 months
- 30 months
- Annual visits from age 3 through young adulthood
What Types of Screenings Are Part of Preventive Pediatric Care?
- Monitoring growth: This includes measuring your child’s height, weight, BMI, and head circumference for infants and toddlers.
- Monitoring vision and blood pressure: These screenings begin around age 3.
- Developmental screenings: This includes autism screenings at 9 months, 18 months, 24 months, and 30 months, and optional ADHD screenings.
- Blood test screenings: This includes recommended preventive pediatric care testing for cholesterol and blood glucose, any necessary diagnostic testing that may arise, and STI screenings for teenagers.
We also complete hearing screenings, mental and behavioral health screenings, along with lead and anemia screenings, per AAP guidelines.
Complete Physical Forms
Need a completed physical form for school enrollment, sports participation, or summer camp? These can also be taken care of at your child’s well-child visit. If scheduling is an issue, they can also be taken care of at a dedicated physical exam appointment.
Vaccinations Included at Every Well-Child Visit
At Nevada Pediatric Specialists, we adhere fully to the AAP-recommended vaccination schedule, including an annual flu vaccine to all children 6 months or older.
We do not support alternative or delayed immunization schedules.
