Sports Physical Specialist
Sports Physicals in Las Vegas & Henderson, NV
Before your young athlete hits the field, court, or track, they need a pre-participation physical examination (PPE). Nevada Pediatric Specialists provides sports physicals for student athletes at both our Las Vegas and Henderson locations — available during walk-in clinic hours or by same-day appointment so you’re never stuck waiting for clearance.
What Is a Pre-Participation Physical Examination?
A sports physical — also called a PPE — is a targeted medical evaluation designed to identify any health conditions that could put your child at risk during athletic activity. It’s required by most Clark County and Henderson school districts, as well as most recreational and club sports programs. While it focuses on athletic readiness, it’s also an important opportunity to address any health concerns before the season starts.
What We Evaluate at a Sports Physical
- Cardiovascular health — heart rate, rhythm, blood pressure, murmur screening
- Cardiac and family history for sudden cardiac death risk factors
- Musculoskeletal assessment — flexibility, strength, prior injuries
- Vision screening
- Neurological history — concussion history, seizures
- Respiratory health — asthma and exercise-induced symptoms
- BMI and general physical health
- Skin conditions relevant to contact sports
- Hernia check for male athletes
Required Forms
We complete the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association (NIAA) form and other required school or league paperwork at the time of the visit. Bring any forms provided by your child’s school or athletic program. If you don’t have a form, we have standard documentation that most programs accept.
Sports Physicals vs. Well-Child Visits
A sports physical is not a substitute for an annual well-child visit. It focuses specifically on athletic readiness. If your child’s annual checkup is due, we encourage combining the visits — our providers can complete both at the same appointment, keeping your child’s comprehensive health record current alongside their sports clearance.
Walk-In Sports Physicals
Beat the back-to-school rush. Our walk-in clinic is open Monday through Saturday for sports physicals. No appointment needed — just bring your forms, insurance card, and your athlete, and we’ll get you cleared. Need a school enrollment physical at the same time? We handle those too — see our physical exams page for details.
