Obesity & Weight Management Specialist
Pediatric Obesity & Weight Management in Las Vegas & Henderson, NV
Childhood obesity is a growing concern across Nevada and the nation — but it’s also a condition where early, compassionate intervention makes a measurable difference. At Nevada Pediatric Specialists, we provide evidence-based, family-centered weight management support for children and adolescents in Las Vegas and Henderson, without shame or judgment.
Our Approach to Pediatric Weight Management
We follow the American Academy of Pediatrics’ updated 2023 Clinical Practice Guideline on Obesity, which recommends early, intensive intervention rather than watchful waiting. Our approach is non-judgmental, strengths-based, and family-centered. We understand that a child’s weight is influenced by genetics, environment, behavior, and sometimes medical conditions — and we address all of it.
We do not put children on restrictive diets or use weight-shaming language. Our goal is to support healthy habits, healthy growth, and healthy self-image.
What We Offer
- BMI tracking and growth monitoring at every well-child visit
- Nutrition counseling and age-appropriate dietary guidance
- Physical activity coaching and goal-setting
- Screening for medical causes of weight gain (hypothyroidism, insulin resistance)
- Lab work — lipid panel, blood glucose, liver enzymes, HbA1c
- Motivational interviewing and behavioral goal-setting
- Coordination with dietitians and mental health providers when needed
- Medication-assisted treatment for adolescents when clinically appropriate per AAP guidelines
Why Early Intervention Matters
Children with obesity are more likely to carry the condition into adulthood, and more likely to develop type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, sleep apnea, joint problems, and mental health challenges. Early intervention — especially between ages 2 and 12 — yields the best long-term outcomes. A pediatrician who knows your child’s growth trajectory is uniquely positioned to identify when and how to intervene.
Supporting the Whole Family
Healthy habits work best when they’re household habits. Our providers engage the whole family in the conversation — not to assign blame, but because sustainable change requires a supportive environment. Some follow-up visits and counseling sessions can also be handled via telehealth for convenience.
