Newborn Care Specialist
Newborn Pediatrician in Las Vegas & Henderson, NV
Bringing a new baby home is one of the most exciting — and overwhelming — experiences of a parent’s life. Nevada Pediatric Specialists is here to help you navigate those first weeks with confidence. Our board-certified providers offer expert newborn care starting with your baby’s very first visit, just days after birth.
Your Baby’s First Pediatric Visit
The AAP recommends every newborn be seen by a pediatrician within 3 to 5 days of leaving the hospital. At this first visit, we check your baby’s weight, evaluate jaundice levels, assess feeding (whether breastfeeding or formula), review newborn screening results, and answer the hundred questions every new parent has. It’s a critical touchpoint — and we never rush it.
What We Monitor in the Newborn Period
- Weight gain and feeding progress
- Jaundice — visual assessment and bilirubin testing when indicated
- Umbilical cord care and circumcision healing
- Newborn reflexes and neurological development
- Review of newborn metabolic screening (PKU, thyroid, and more)
- Hearing screening follow-up if not completed in the hospital
- Parental mental health and support needs
Breastfeeding & Feeding Support
Feeding challenges are one of the most common reasons new parents call us in the first weeks. Our providers offer guidance on latch issues, milk supply concerns, formula selection, and safe feeding practices. We’ll help you identify whether your baby is getting enough to eat and when a lactation consultant referral may be appropriate.
Prenatal Consultations — Meet Us Before Your Baby Arrives
You don’t have to wait until your baby is born to choose a pediatrician. We offer prenatal consultations for expectant parents, typically in the third trimester. You’ll meet one of our providers, tour the practice, and leave with answers to your questions — so you’re not starting from scratch in those overwhelming early days.
Newborn Immunizations
Your baby’s first vaccines begin in the hospital and continue at the 2-month well visit. We’ll walk you through the full AAP immunization schedule and what to expect after each round of shots, including normal reactions and when to call us.
